The STAR Weather Balloon team aims to provide members experience with developing hardware and software capable of autonomously performing science and collecting data. Our first projects will focus on using the weather balloon as a testing platform for radio communication systems in conjunction with our Antenna team. In the future, we hope to test our CubeSat radio and communication systems, utilizing weather balloons as a prototyping and testing platform.

Hardware and Software Design

The software subsystem team operates the programming side. Using Arduino and Raspberry Pi systems, many modules can be used to collect data. After the launch, this data can be formatted and reviewed for improvements in design.

Structures

The structures subsystem team deals with the payload setup and the mass budget. This includes laying out components, researching parts, and designing the artwork. On launch day, this team is crucial to ensure the payload cannot be easily damaged.
