Rutgers University’s first Cube Satellite Mission:

The STAR CubeSat team aims to send Rutgers University’s first student-built satellite into space. The Sloshing Platform for In-Orbit Controller Experimentation satellite (SPICEsat) will investigate fuel sloshing dynamics in zero-gravity. The goal is to aim to design, build, test, and integrate a novel payload with COTS hardware. Students have the opportunity to work with a team on a real mission alongside professors and industry professionals. Formerly a part of the University Nanosatellite Program, SPICEsat has a well-developed mission concept and is in the process of integration and test of an engineering model.

Mission Objectives

Mission objectives:
1) Investigate and characterize the fluid sloshing motion in zero-g environments to validate equivalent mechanical models
2) Develop and test control stabilization algorithms to mitigate sloshing more effectively than passive options
